Dr. Bichler joined the faculty at CSUSB in September 2000 after completing her Ph.D. at Rutgers - State University of New Jersey. Dr. Bichler works with criminal justice agencies, community groups, and city governments to develop solutions to local crime and public safety issues that invoke stronger place management and situational crime prevention. This often involves the use various research technologies (e.g., geographic information systems and social network analysis techniques) to analyze crime issues. Research into understanding the factors that facilitate crime problems has lead Dr. Bichler to consult on a wide range of projects throughout the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States.
Given her interested in applied research and expertise in Problem-oriented Policing, Dr. Bichler accepted a position as one of the judges and a project coach for the Herman Goldstein Excellence in Problem-oriented Policing Award. Dr. Bichler is founder and co-director of the Center for Criminal Justice Research. In addition, as the Crime Analysis Division coordinator she is responsible for the new Crime Analysis Certificate Program. The Center for Criminal Justice Research is part of an international research lab consortium focused on program evaluation and the analysis of crime problems. Dr. Bichler has been extensively involved with the Western Society of Criminology in various capacities including president and co-editor of their on-line, peer review professional journal the Western Criminology Review. The Western Society of Criminology is an important regional professional association dedicated to applied criminal justice research and program evaluation. Dr. Bichler has received a number of awards and honors: J.D. Lohman Award for outstanding service to the Western Society of Criminology; Provost's Dissertation Award 2000 for the top doctoral dissertation; the Graduate Excellence Award for teaching and scholarship; Richard J. Hughes Award for graduating the Master of Arts with the highest standing (Rutgers University, 1996); and the Rutgers Excellence Fellowship Award (1995-1999).

PALM SPRINGS CRIME ANALYSIS PROJECT. Role: principal investigator contracting with the City of Palm Springs, CA to provide crime analysis, including GIS based analysis of data supplied by the Police Department.
CPTED Training for the City of Fontana. Role: conduct Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design training for city staff (planning and police departments).
CHULA VISTA BUDGET MOTEL PROJECT. Contract with the City of Chula Vista, CA. Role: principal investigator on a collaborative project with the Chula Vista Police Department to research the impact of low cost motels on crime in the city.
FACULTY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP. College of Social and Behavioral Sciences funded by the Chancellor's Office and/or CSUSB Foundation. Role: principal investigator of a project examining the security of public art.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY CRIME PREVENTION ACT (A.B. 1913). Role: conducted geographic analysis to accompany evaluations of five juvenile anti-crime programs for the Riverside County Board of Corrections: Youth Accountability Teams, Youth Court, School Attendance Review Boards, Riverside Gang Prevention Program, and Family Violence Prevention Program.
MENTALLY ILL OFFENDER CRIME REDUCTION ACT DEMONSTRATION PASSAGES PROJECT. Role: project manager responsible for an evaluation of the Passages Project run by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
CSUSB/ PEOPLE’S HEALTH NETWORK—COMMUNITY SURVEY. Community University Partnerships 2000-2001 Fellowships funded by CUP, CSUSB. Role: co-principal investigator providing research services to the People’s Health Network (PHN) to conduct a needs assessment regarding the impoverished and homeless people residing in the Inland Empire.
