Does the Criminal Justice Department have any special admission requirements? |
|||
| In order to be admitted to the Department, you need only to be admitted to the University. | |||
| How difficult is it to enroll in the courses that I need to graduate? | |||
| Very few Criminal Justice courses are closed to students. The Department offers one or two sections of the required courses each quarter and all the elective courses are alternatively offered every other quarter. | |||
| Can I complete the Criminal Justice major by attending evening courses? | |||
| Yes. Although the Department offers more courses during the day than evening, every required Criminal Justice course is offered at night each year. Several electives are offered at night each quarter. | |||
| If I transfer from another college or university, will I lose credits or units? | |||
| Normally, students who transfer to CSUSB and major in Criminal Justice do not lose units in the major. The Admissions Office is responsible for considering general education courses. If you are transferring from an accredited four-year college, the Department counts your courses as if they were taken at CSUSB. If you transfer from a community or junior college, the Department only accepts courses that are equivalent to our lower division courses and three other community college courses as Criminal Justice electives. | |||
| How do I obtain academic advising? | |||
| It is helpful if you have a copy of your current PAWS report. The PAWS report is issued to students once a year and it contains a listing of all the courses that you have completed and the courses that remain to be taken. You can take the PAWS report to any faculty member who will assist you in reading the PAWS report. You can also contact the Departmental Administrative Assistant or the Department Chair who can assist you with academic counseling. The Department holds an academic advising session each quarter at the beginning of registration to assist students. If you do not have a PAWS report, the Departmental Administrative Assistant can print you a copy of the courses that you have taken. | |||
| How do I obtain career counseling? | |||
| Every
member of the faculty is familiar with careers in criminal justice. However,
several of them have specialties to better advise students about particular
career fields. They are:
Police: Dr.
Parsons, Dr. Gaines and Dr. Famega |
|||
| Does the Department require that I have a minor in addition to the major? | |||
| No. However, there are ample general elective units in the major to allow a student to have a minor without having to take any or only a few units above the University requirement for the BA degree. | |||
| If I receive a D in a criminal justice course, do I have to repeat the course? | |||
| No.
You must maintain a 2.0 grade point average in the major and in all your
coursework in order to graduate. |
|||
| Does Criminal Justice have any activities or clubs? | |||
| Yes, we have active Criminal Justice Club which is open to all Criminal Justice students. Trips to various facilities are scheduled. Dr. Tibbetts is the club advisor. In addition, we have Alpha Phi Sigma. Please contact Dr. Christine Famega, faculty advisor, for more information. | |||
